Writing Cold Cover Letters

What are Cold Cover Letters?

Writing to any company in the hope that they have a job vacancy that will suit you is a bit of a hit and miss affair at the best of times. This is what is known as writing Cold Cover Letters. You don't really know if a company even has a vacancy in the field you are looking at.

At Hollybrook Marketing we rarely suggest sending cold cover letters mainly because the likelihood of a reply is somewhat doubtful. However, if there is a particular company that you really would like to work for at some stage in the future, then, yes, it would be worth sending a series of cold cover letters - but do not get carried away and send one every week or so. That will just get you tagged as being a nuisance and the chance of getting anywhere are close to zero.

Writing cold cover letters is much the same as writing for an advertised job vacancy. You simply follow the format found in the new "How to Write a Job Cover Letter" by Hollybrook Marketing. But instead of writing for a specific vacancy, you would adjust your content to reflect that you are making a tentative inquiry, and that you would like your inquiry placed on file for any openings that suit the skills and talents as outlined in your cover letter and resume.

Your guide was absolutely amazing. I thought I knew everything I needed to know about writing a cover letter. But your guide opened my eyes to things I never would have thought of writing. I am not looking right now, but I am sure I will have more interviews in the future.
